This Organization Has Killed Thousands Of Civilians, And It’s Not Who You Might Think.

This organization has been responsible for nearly 400 attacks in Pakistan, Somalia, and Yemen, which have killed between 2400 and 3000 people.*
During the past 5 years, this organization’s activities have claimed the lives of nearly 100 children.*
The regime has even been bold enough to attack American citizens; at least four United States citizens have been killed by this organization.**
These attacks have taken place seemingly at random and no one but those in the highest level of the regime is aware of the targets selected or why they are chosen.
Which terrorist organization is responsible for these attacks? Is it a Muslim extremist group? Is it the work of a warlord or militia? Could it be the work of some new terror threat that we do not yet understand?

No… Sadly the government of The United States has performed the actions described above. With little or no oversight President Obama and his administration have drastically expanded the drone strike program begun under former President George Bush. At this point in his term, President Obama has ordered 8 times as many drone strikes as were executed during the entire Bush Presidency.

How can this be? How is it possible that the President of The United States, leader of the free world, could order the deaths of this many men, women, and children? How is it possible that the president could execute American Citizens?

In we can see that on page 6 paragraph 3 we can see that a US citizen can be terminated when the following conditions are met:
1. A high-level government official has determined that the individual poses an imminent threat to The United States.
2. Capture of the individual in infeasible.
3. The operation is conducted in accordance with the law of war principles.

However, the subsequent paragraph continues:
“The condition that an operational leader pose an “imminent” threat of violent attack against the Untied States does not require the United States to have clear evidence that a specific attack on U.S. persons and interests will take place in the immediate future.”

I draw your attention to the definition of the word, Imminent: “likely to occur at any moment; impending”

What about the constitutional rights of American citizens? What about the right to due process, where evidence is presented in a court and weighed by a jury? Well, in a 2012 speech, Eric Holder said the following:
“Due process and judicial process are not one and the same, particularly when it comes to national security. The Constitution guarantees due process, not judicial process.”
So there you have it. The United States Attorney General has openly declared that the president and high-level officials of this administration can target anyone, anywhere in the world for termination based on secret evidence that is reviewed in secret by unknown individuals.

How does this make you feel? These are not the actions of the America that our forefathers envisioned. Members of our government have been killing men, women, and children in attacks occurring all over the Middle East with little or no oversight with alarming regularity. These attacks occur so frequently that our own national news media rarely reports on them…

"I no longer love blue skies..."

“I no longer love blue skies…”

In a recent briefing, a 13-year-old Pakistani boy named Zubair told members of congress, “I no longer love blue skies. In fact, I now prefer grey skies. The drones do not fly when the skies are grey.”

Are we fighting a war on terror? Are we proud of our nations actions? Are we winning or are we simply creating a new, stronger, and more dedicated generation of people who despise America?
I fear that if we do not change something, and right quick, our own children and grandchildren will be fighting this same war long after we are gone. Most of all, I fear that we, as a nation, have become as terrible and menacing as the terrorist organizations that we have been struggling to defeat over the past 10 years during our never-ending “war on terror”.

Are we proud that this is what America represents overseas?

I know that this is a type of article that Amplifying Glass rarely produces, but dammit, this is important! Learn more about this, ask questions! If you are inclined, watch this video of John Oliver describing the situation. Sometimes it takes a comedian to remind us of who we are…

If you disagree or agree, let us know in the comments below! We should be talking about this, people! Don’t quietly close the page without saying anything! It’s not like the government is spying on this blog! You won’t wind up on a watch list or anything. Whoa… Wait… Maybe you will!
